Children's Health Names Associate CMOs, Medical City recognized by Leapfrog, THR Foundation has a new president, and more.

Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center have named appointed Dr. Andrew Gelfand, Dr. Brad Tate, and Dr. Maeve Sheehan as Associate Chief Medical Officers for their respective Children’s Health hospitals. Gelfand will be Associate CMO at Our Children’s House, and Tate and Sheehan will assume their positions at Children’s Medical Center Plano and Children’s Medical Center Dallas, respectively. The leaders will provide physician leadership at their facilities.


Ten Medical City Healthcare hospitals have been awarded an “A” in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which recognizes hospitals for protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. They include Medical City Alliance, Medical City Arlington, Medical City Dallas, Medical City Denton, Medical City Fort Worth, Medical City Frisco, Medical City Las Colinas, Medical City Lewisville, Medical City McKinney and Medical City Plano.


Sixth-year MD and PhD student in the Medical Scientist Training Program at UT Southwestern Medical School Whitney Stuard has named Student of the Year for 2021 by the Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section. Strand is a member of TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee, and has served on the TEXPAC Board of Directors.


Laura McWhorter is now the president of the Texas Health Resources Foundation where she will focus on strategic partnerships through fundraising. She previously spent 18 months as chief philanthropy officer at North Texas Community Foundation.


Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South was given 5-stars from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the spring 2021 Overall Hospital Quality Star rating. The ranking includes more than 4,500 U.S. hospitals and evaluates various measures, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates and safety of care.
