The Grape Celebrates 42 Years of Business with 4 Days of Festivities

The Grape opened on Lower Greenville in 1972, and forty-two years later, the upscale bistro is still plating some of the most notable dishes in Dallas.

Chef and owner, Brian Luscher, purchased The Grape from its original owners in 2007. “In many ways, the Grape is the same great place it’s always been,” he says. “Creative, current menus meld seamlessly with new innovative culinary ideas.” The Grape was the first restaurant in Dallas to have a blackboard menu, and still offers rotating dishes that are listed via chalk. The restaurant is also known for its wine program, which boasts twenty-four wines by the glass, and a carefully curated cellar with more than two hundred bottles of vino.

So what is chef Luscher most jubilant about as the restaurant approaches its forty-second year of business? “I couldn’t be more excited about our Chef de Cuisine, Sarah Snow. Her execution of our culinary vision for The Grape is on target, and she is only getting started. I’ve always maintained that The Grape is a ‘Chef’s Joint.’ A lot of talented folks have come through this kitchen and she is the next shining star. I am very proud of her.” Snow’s past kitchen experience includes The Common Table, Village Kitchen, Toko V., Marquee Grill and The Pyramid Restaurant.

To celebrate, the restaurant is hosting a series of events, kicking off with a “Wine and Cheese Chat” on Tuesday, October 21. The “chat” is hosted by Courtney Luscher and certified cheese professional, Ali Morgan. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste four different types of cheese paired with wine. Tickets cost $28 per person, and guests who stay for dinner will receive an additional 20% off their bill.

On Thursday, October 23 there will be a special wine dinner, featuring old world wines. The meal is hosted by sommelier Jason Charles, of Glazer’s. Snow will whip up a four-course tasting menu to compliment the wines. Tickets cost $64.

The restaurant wraps up the celebration on Friday and Saturday with a special anniversary three-course menu. Dishes include oxtail ravioli, roasted mirepoix, celery root puree, beurre rouge; pork milanese, onion risotto, cassava, watercress, lemon-caper buerre blanc and a caramel pot de crème, bourbon sabayon, charred fig, bacon candy.
