How You Can Help Needy Families This Holiday Season

It's easier than you think.

As anyone with a long Christmas list and a calendar full of holiday parties knows, this time of year can get expensive. But for some families, it can be a struggle simply to make ends meet. Forget PS4s and Pokemon—the gifts these families are wishing for are far more basic: A place to call their own. A bed. A blanket.

That’s why we love Dwell with Dignity. The nearly 5-year-old Dallas-based non-profit helps local families escape poverty and provides them with fully-furnished homes they can be proud of. The group relies on the help of generous donors and volunteers to provide materials and manpower to make their projects possible, and this year, they’re introducing a new way for people to help: The Jingle Dwell Holiday Giving Tree. It works much in the same way as the angel trees that are prevalent around the holidays, except it’s online and the task of shopping is done for you. To contribute, simply log on to jingledwell.com, select an “ornament” that represents one of the many items needed to fill a home, check out, and voila—you’ve provided a family in need with basic (and, safe to say when it comes to Dwell with Dignity, beautiful) necessities. The items range from just $20 for things like toys, throw pillows, and food for the pantry to $1,450 for an entire living room.
