I was out yesterday when Adam shared DMN editor Bob Mong’s memo about joining forces with the Star-Telegram. I believe the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News are experimenting with such a collaboration. They’ve combined their Travel sections. If that’s the sort of thing Mong is talking about, I guess there’s no harm. Newspapers probably shouldn’t have travel sections anyway. But competition is always a good thing — at least for the consumer. It would be one thing to join forces to accomplish something the two papers couldn’t on their own. But that’s not what we seem to be talking about here.
One thing’s for certain: by the end of the process, Mong will have learned that it’s the Star-Telegram. The paper dropped “Fort Worth” from its name years ago.
