THUMBS DOWN to Governor BILL CLEMENTS for vetoing the legislature’s $555 million public school finance package, thus ensuring that the state would not meet the court-ordered deadline of May 1. Raising the state sales tax from 6 to 6.5 percent is not the perfect way of bringing equitable funding to our schools. But where talk of a personal income tax is verboten, such half-measures are necessary. It looks like “Dollar Bill” will remain an anti-leader to the end.
