In May, voters approved a $9 million bond package to pay for the first desilting-make that demucking-of White Rock Lake since 1974. The Public Works department is looking for a contractor to scoop out the tons of pollutants and shallow-water vegetation that mire the lake bottom, and the end result will be a deeper and cleaner White Rock Lake–someday. City officials say work is “tentatively scheduled” to begin next summer and the project “should probably” take about two years to complete. So, like a transplant candidate waiting for a donor, White Rock Lake continues to ail.
