Images produced at TCU’s Center for Remote Sensing show that when developers’ bulldozers take out mature trees they also create micro heat islands (red on the maps) that raise temperatures overall an average of 15 degrees. And these satellite images were taken by NASA in October. The lesson for anyone who wants to avoid the full brunt of the Texas summer heat: Move to an old neighborhood with old trees.
