Weekends are meant for gardening and road trips—so why not combine the two with a green-filled weekend in Edom, Texas? An hour and a half outside of town, nestled among the tree-lined roads of East Texas, Edom is a nature lover’s delight with nurseries, a vineyard, and blueberry farm. With only 375 residents, this sleepy little town is a great place to recharge while taking charge of your landscape.

Make a day of it

Edom is small enough to tackle in a day. (Which will give you the second half of the weekend to get your plant purchases in the ground!)

Make a weekend of it

While you’re able to see all of Edom’s offerings in an afternoon, you may want to stay and take in the piney woods of East Texas. Luckily, Edom has several places to hang your gardening gloves.

  • Dragonhead Retreat Choose from the 1,200-square-foot cabin or 2,400-square-foot lodge and enjoy 25 wooded acres with hammocks, bench swings, and a rock garden.

  • Wood Haven Cabins Retreat Stay in one of five rustic, hand-built cabins, each with porches and views of a private lake.

  • The Farm House Retreat This scenic event venue boasts nine cabins with room for two or more.

The best days to visit are Friday–Sunday (most places are closed on weekdays).
