The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education approved Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth to begin their new general surgery residency program. The new program, set to begin in mid-2021, will be the first residency education program for the hospital. Texas Health’s ability to increase graduate medical education through the program is intended to help address physician shortages in North Texas.
The Texas Medical Association (TMA) awarded Dallas nephrologist Steven R. Hays, MD the 2020 TMA Young at Heart Award. Dr. Hays received the award for his work with medical students, resident physicians and young physicians in helping them improve their skills to better serve Texas healthcare systems.

Parker University’s president was recently nominated as a new member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Prosthetics and Special Disabilities. Dr. William E. Morgan will work with the committee to develop prosthetics and rehabilitation research for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The committee is comprised of 12 members, including four veterans with disabilities following their time in the military.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas was recognized for its work in organ and tissue donation awareness last week by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. For work with Southwest Transplant Alliance, the hospital was recognized with the Workplace Partner for Life Platinum Award. Last year, the hospital received praise for having 16 organ donors.
Caris Life Sciences announced the launch of Comprehensive Oncology Data Explorer, or CODEai. The platform will rely on AI to develop cancer data solutions, specifically relating to genomics. Over 215,000 patients will benefit from the platform’s development with the goal of achieving research, product development, and clinical trial objectives.
