The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed back the opening of the new Texas Health Sports Medicine and sports performance facility building. Texas Health Sports Medicine, Athlete Training and Health, and Allen Orthopedics and Sports Medicine broke ground on the $10 million building June of last year, and construction for the facility began in November.

The project was originally expected to be completed this summer, but the pandemic moved the public grand opening to January 2021. Texas Health employees will be able to preview the building in November.

The 31,000 square foot building will include a full-length soccer field, state-of-the-art strength and conditioning equipment, an indoor training turf field, fitness classes, and access to orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation for injuries.

In the next few weeks, construction crews will start striping the parking lot and working on the walls.

“We’re excited to welcome athletes of all ages as we build lasting relationships with families in the community,” said Jared Shelton, president of Texas Health Allen, in a news release. “With the recent topping out of the new 75-bed tower and now the construction of a new athletics facility, Texas Health Allen is dedicated to meeting the needs of our growing city.”
