Four more travelers who returned to North Texas from West Africa are now being monitored for symptoms associated with Ebola.
Dallas County Health and Human Services spokeswoman Erikka Neroes said the four returned to Dallas County on Nov. 18 from the region. The 21-day incubation period will end on December 8.
In all, the county is monitoring 13 people for Ebola. All are considered low-risk. Some were reported to have visited West Africa to volunteer in the fight against the virus, which has ravaged Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Nigeria. No one has shown symptoms and the county has not released any other identifying information.
“I want to emphasize to everyone that they are not at risk of getting Ebola unless they have come in contact with blood, bodily fluids, or contaminated objects from a person who is sick with Ebola,” said Dr. Christopher Perkins, the county’s medical director. “Individuals with the most risk include healthcare workers, family members, or others in close contact to a person with symptoms of Ebola.”
All have been told not to use public transportation and are having their temperatures checked twice daily.
