MY PASSION

Of all the artwork in Sam Cohn’s Dallas home, one piece is his favorite: his custom, 400-gallon AQUARIUM. Cohn, one of Southwest Airline’s original 20-pilot crew back in 1971, relinquished decorating duties to his wife, Jill. But when Sam suggested replacing an empty glass shelf in the living room with a fish tank, Cohn says, “She didn’t say no!” Despite retiring six years ago, Cohn has kept busy, with everything from business (he’s co-founded a fence- and deck-staining company with his son called Artistic Paint Concepts), to charity work (he raises funds for Challenge Air, a mentor and scholarship-based organization that takes challenged children on flights), and having fun (Cohn, a former Clemson University basketball player, plays in Senior Masters basketball tournaments and is working on bringing one to Dallas). But when he needs to unwind, Cohn admires his underwater masterpiece. “It’s so relaxing just to sit in there and watch the fish,” he says. “It really is like moving art.”
