Maybe you love to hate them. Maybe you hate to love them. Or maybe you have absolutely zero idea where you land emotionally on fanny packs, which are currently enjoying a more sophisticated resurgence thanks to Rihanna and design houses such as YSL and Givenchy.
And just like Dallas helped pave the way for the rise of the “lady backpack,” our city has embraced the ease and functionality of the fanny pack (also graciously known as the “belt bag”). In the D Magazine office alone, the accessory has been everywhere this summer. For every Gucci belt bag, you’ll see a North Face that can transform into a fanny pack (a Fanorak, apparently).
“We saw fanny packs in the ’70s and ’80s, and now they’re making their way back to us. Today, we are all about versatility and functionality, while still being fashion forward,” says stylist Alexandrea Cohen. “Thankfully, designers are on board too.”
