Earlier this month, I read an article in The Atlantic about “The Rise of The Lady Backpack.” I myself have been a lady backpack supporter since the spring of 2018, when I bought a cute little Knomo one to simplify traveling around Japan, ultimately recognizing that it could also simplify living my life. I now own multiple backpacks (I guess you would call them lady backpacks), and while I love them dearly, I know that I would never have been brave enough to double-shoulder it at all if things hadn’t trended in that direction.

And, according to that Atlantic article, I can thank Dallas for that. “The rise of the lady backpack is mostly being driven by women in cities, especially in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas,” market- research firm NPD’s accessories analyst Beth Goldstein told the magazine.

As leaders of this trend, Dallas’s retail scene is stocked with “lady backpacks” aplenty. Here are a few of our favorites.
