The sixth season of AT&T Performing Art Center’s #HearHere series kicks off in September with the return of former first lady Michelle Obama to the Winspear Opera House.

The repeat guest previously appeared at the Winspear for #HearHere in March 2018. Her last trip to Dallas was in December at American Airlines Center, while on tour for her memoir Becoming, which sold more copies than any other book published in the U.S. last year. She’ll probably touch on the bestseller during what’s being called An Evening with Former First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The rest of the lineup is out, too. Academy Award-winning filmmaker, author, and NYU Grad Film Tenured Professor Spike Lee will be the next guest, appearing at the Winspear on Saturday, December 14 at 8 p.m. He’s best known as a director, writer, and producer, but he dabbles in a variety of projects, including books, children’s books and a full-service ad agency, Spike/DDB.

The season continues in 2020 with Captain Scott Kelly, the engineer, retired astronaut, and retired U.S. Navy captain. His 2017 New York Times best-selling book, Endurance: My Year In Space and Our Journey to Mars, chronicles his record-breaking trip on the yearlong ISS mission, as well as three other voyages to outer space. He’s become a renowned speaker since returning earthside, sharing incredible stories and reflecting on leadership. He’s at the Winspear on Thursday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.

#HearHere returns after a hiatus in June with Samin Nosrat, chef, TV host, and writer of the phenomenally popular cookbook Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking. The 2018 James Beard General Cookbook of the Year has been turned into a documentary series on Netflix, which also won a James Beard Award. Nosrat is now working on a new book, What to Cook, and speaking about food and culture at venues including Yale University and the Cuban National Cooking School. She was one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2019. See her Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m.

The 2019/2020 series draws to a close with astronomical “science communicator” Neil deGrass Tyson. The astrophysicist and 10-time author has created a prominent role for himself as a science advocate in pop culture, hosting shows like Cosmos and Space Talk. He’ll be talking about “Delusions of Space Enthusiasts” at the Winspear on Monday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Current subscribers to the #HearHere series can renew their seats through Monday, July 29. New member subscriptions will go on sale starting at 10 a.m. on August 2, with season packages starting at $211.50. Tickets to the individual engagements aren’t currently on sale, but may become available closer to the events. Stay tuned.
