Lovers Lane boutique Elements has long been a hot spot for Australian designs—Zimmermann’s ruffled dresses and Camilla’s psychedelic caftans, to name a couple. So what’s with the Down Under-to-Dallas connection? Creative director Stevie Moore says it’s all about climate. “Australian designs are often sexier, bolder, more feminine, more figure-flattering, and more colorful than collections coming out of New York or Europe, where women have to cover up a bit more out of necessity.” Two up-and-coming Aussie lines have already had popular debuts at the shop this season: Maticevski’s structured-yet-fluid gowns and separates in solid shades, and Romance Was Born’s “Queen of the Night” collection, flush with silk chiffon and satin printed with Gary Heery’s dramatic avian photographs. “Both collections are gorgeous, but they couldn’t be more different,” Moore says.
