Barring a last-minute act of God, the city’s Trinity River Wind Festival will lift off between the levees Saturday.
October 29 is, by our count, the fourth date set for the festival, which was postponed twice last year and again this spring, when heavy rain caused the Trinity floodplain to, well, flood. We admire the dogged persistence of the Trinity River Wind Festival, and for that alone, find it worth your time this weekend. Humanity and its festivals will triumph over nature. Coexist with nature, that is. The festival is, after all, celebrating some of the joys of being outdoors, and too much hubris over the environment seems likely to provoke the wrath of Mother Nature, or at least another event-delaying rainstorm.
Kite-flying, bird-sighting, and rock climbing will dominate the day’s activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverfront and Commerce. The festival is free, but for visitors who drive and park in one of the lots at 146 W. Commerce St., it’s $4 to $6 per car.
