Thumbs Down: To Dallas policeman (make that former Dallas policeman) Vincent Gomez. Last year Gomez drove his car through the back door of a nude modeling studio, angry when a model failed to keep her appointment with him. He was suspended, then reinstated. Recently, Gomez crashed into the wall of an apartment building – after backing into a parked car and sideswiping an oak tree. DWI. Well, at least, he didn’t do it on purpose.
Thumbs Up: To Jim Murray, John Tatum, and Dave Braden. These three unrelated gentlemen have one thing in common – all have bought properties for refurbishing in the historical warehouse district in northwest downtown Dallas. Murray started things three years ago when he bought an old warehouse at 2008 Laws. He’s recently bought two more buildings in the area. John Ta-tum sparked renewed interest recently with the purchase of the old Wapples-Platter warehouse. Braden and associates then bought the Allis-Chalmers Building.
Thumbs Down:
To the elevator in the Dallas County Old Jail. When the Texas Commission on Jail Standards made their annual inspection recently, the elevator suddenly stopped, trapping the five inspectors between floors for almost 10 minutes. “Luckily,” says administrative assistant Gary Griffith, “the elevator wasn’t one of the things they were inspecting.”
