Naked Chardonnay, Anything But Typical

|
Image

naked chardonnayI had a late dinner at Porch last night, after a screening of Julie and Julia (wonderful…absolutely wonderful,) and opted for a glass of the Naked Chardonnay – a wine with a fun name that I have been hearing some buzz about and wanted to give it a try.

Our waitress advised it wasn’t like any Chardonnay you have ever had before.  Intrigued, I of course said yes.  When I think of a naked wine I think of the true flavors of the grape and the earth coming out, without the elements that can alter a wines taste like aging or oak.  And for a Chardonnay, I thought this would be more about the earthy minerals and stone fruit flavors typically found in some of my favorite French White Burgundies and Chablis.

However, Naked Chardonnay is more like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, filled with lots of grapefruit, melon and citrus.  It was refreshing and certainly drinkable, but not typical.  Just shows you never know what you’ll get on a given day.

And, thanks Porch, I think we sat down about 2 minutes after closing and everything was great, especially the red pepper hummus with feta.
