When you’re already planning your next visit after leaving a restaurant, you know someone has done something right. And at Lumi—sandwiched between Primo’s and Hook, Line, & Sinker on McKinney Avenue—there is a lot to love. The quaint cottage exterior gives way to a cool, minimalist interior. The menu is littered with plenty of two-bite delights. Starters such as portabello fries and Ahi tuna nachos kicked the meal off right. Dumplings featured fillings such as duck and leek, Thai panang curry chicken, and pork and chives. A deep golden brown, the empanadas looked overdone but—surprise—the crust was crispy and the filling (classic beef and potato in mine, spicy shrimp and crab in my friend’s) was moist and comforting. If we hadn’t been so stuffed (those tiny tapas are deceptively filling), I would have ordered the fried banana ice cream sundae. At the very least, I’ll go back to Lumi to drink. Happy hour is Wed-Fri 5-7pm with specialty drinks $5 and select empanadas and dumplings half price. Plus, I’m all over the ginger and lime margarita.
