My friend and future husband Jim Williamson tells us what’s been happening in his life (and showroom) this week. Lately, it has been go, go, and go some more. I’m not talking a bladder control commercial where people made of pipes go merrily about their day. I’m talking schedule: work, dinner, meeting, parties, and repeat. I’m not complaining—although I could use a nap. But when so much is going on, something interesting is always happening.
Take last weekend. As we were having drinks and dinner with a friend at Parigi, who should walk in but Kathryn Ireland, of Million Dollar Decorator fame. She was looking good, and she’s as funny as ever. Was Kathryn in town filming for the next season of MDD? I couldn’t say. We’ll ave to wait and see next spring. My niece is a huge fan Kathryn—and design in general. I texted her a pic with Kathryn, and she was thrilled. Note to self: visit family more often.
Moving on, last night we thought feathers were going to fly when Champagne, chicken wings, and lo mein noodles collided at the VandM party last night. Strange combo, but that’s is just how they do it. Mix it up—like they do on their website featuring cool, vintage, and modern finds—and see what happens. Lots of good stuff happened at our party.
First you have the three B’s: beauty, brains, and blogging. Ashlina, host of popular blog The Decorista, was there. (That girl knows how to mingle!) The lovely (and very funny) girls from Pulp Design Studios popped by. Add in a healthy amount of designers, bloggers, a movie producer or two, people who love design, and boom! You have a party!
At the beginning of the evening, I was a bit on edge that some of that eclectic “cocktail” food might end up on my lovely cream upholstery. I didn’t know whether to pull a Joan Crawford and stand at the ready with my Playtex gloves, stain remover, and blotting towels or just relax and enjoy myself. I chose the latter. (Smart move, if I do say so myself!)
No stains happened, and everyone had a swell time. I got to meet Michael Christopher Matson, who makes some crazy cool sculptures, among other fabulous things. Ne recently received his BFA in printmaking and sculpture from SMU. Like many artists, he uses many types of materials from bronze and neon to film and glass blowing. You will no doubt be hearing more from this native Texan, who BTW, had already sent an email saying “ Pleasure to meet you” by the time I kicked off my shoes late last night. Good to know manners are not a lost art.
Tonight we are off to the Bubble Bar for more merry making with friends, so I guess that nap will have to wait until after the holidays. Have a great Friday!
