Every year, Susan Palma and Muffin Lemak dress up and go trick or treating in the Dallas Design District and provide a little levity in places that tend to take themselves way too seriously. Yesterday, Muffin was busy with a wedding and I got to be the replacement—dressing up, hanging with Susan Palma, and going to the Design Center—three of my favorite things. Susan had the scene all planned out—she was Donna decorator from a certain Dallas suburb (not to be confused with the show Donna desecrates Dallas on HGTV); and I was the client with a lot more money than taste. In keeping with the style promoted on certain shows, we pretty much robbed the animal kingdom of every pattern imaginable—a leapard shirt, hose and shoes for me, and of course, lots of bling and big, big jewelry, and a zebra blouse, rhinestone belt, and sequined pants for Susan. Wigs, fake eyelashes and press on nails perfected the look. So much so, that my good friend Beau Black at the David Sutherland Showroom didn’t recognize me, and politely suggested we should shop elsewhere! Today, it sure was hard coming back to the same old world of being me.
