The D.O.C.’s “Straight Outta Dallas” homecoming show was Saturday night at the Bomb Factory, with Texas music legends like Scarface and Erykah Badu joining the Dallas native and N.W.A. collaborator for his first performance since he got his voice back. It’s a comeback that’s been more than 20 years in the making: a car accident, depicted briefly in the biopic Straight Outta Compton, severely damaged The D.O.C.’s vocal chords and cut short his career as a live performer just months after the release of his classic debut No One Can Do It Better.

The D.O.C. has remained a force in hip-hop, ghostwriting and introducing Dr. Dre to some of North Texas’ local talent, but the accident and the loss of his voice was, for years, one of the most tragic “what-could-have-been” stories in rap music. Now, it seems like that story will have a happy ending. With some new music to go along with the classics, The D.O.C. is back.

Are you kicking yourself for missing the show (I’m in that camp, unfortunately) or just looking to relive part of it?

Well, you can try one of these swell recaps. Or watch one of these videos of the concert that are making the rounds. They’re pretty solid quality, as far as these things go. Parts of the show and the red-carpet event beforehand were apparently filmed for a documentary, but we’ll have to wait on that.
