I’ve been talking about the good, the bad and the notable from the year in pop music all week (find the posts here), but today I’m giving you and myself a bit of a break from the prose. Since Spotify effectively replaced iTunes for many of us this year, I thought I’d give it a nod with a little Friday fun, in the form of a shared playlist.

Here’s a Whitman’s sampler of the music from female artists who made a splash this year. No Adele — I talked about her enough yesterday. You’ll find bubblegum (the ubiquitous Gaga, the chart-exploding Katy), some local-ish delights (Kelly, Sarah, St.) and a few who will be gunning for spots on my inevitable favorite albums list coming next week (Little Dragon, Florence). And it’s 2011, so expect moments of dubstep (dun dun dun).

Let me know what moves you, irks you or inspires you to do strange choreography in your cubicle. I’ll be back next week with a “Men’s Room” playlist (maybe this title concept was a bad idea?), and much more daily pondering of the year in pop.

Have a fruitful holiday-shopping weekend, and be good out there.
