Jim Lehrer Stepping Down as PBS Anchor

|

Long ago Jim Lehrer worked as a reporter at The Dallas Morning News and the late Dallas Times Herald. He went on to anchor the legendary “Newsroom” on KERA with such locals as A.C. Greene, Billy Porterfield, Lee Cullum, Jim Atkinson, John Anders, John Merwin and other colorful characters.

In 1975, he co-anchored and developed “The MacNeill-Lehrer Report” for PBS with Robert MacNeill.  After MacNeill’s retirement in 1995, Jim carried on anchoring “PBS NewsHour.”

Today he announced that he would be stepping down on June 6 as anchor of the show and “begin serving in a contributing role as moderator on Friday evenings.”

Jim will be 77 on May 19.
