Attorney Shannon Zmud Invokes Journalists’ Shield Law For The First Time In Dallas County — And Wins

|

Shannon Zmud, an associate at Jackson Walker, had occasion to use the shield law when a third-party subpoena was sent to her client, a Dallas Morning News reporter. The reporter was being asked to testify at a civil injunction hearing this morning. The case: a group of residents at a Pleasant Grove apartment complex currently without air conditioning, headed by Marlene Ceja, are trying to get their class action suit against Texas Bay Barclay Square Limited Partnership certified. The reporter was excused, thanks to Zmud and the shield law.

Okay, even Zmud is not 100-percent positive it was the first time the shield law was invoked successfully in Dallas County. But she hasn’t heard of any other cases, and no one we asked had either. At any rate, she is “glad to see it worked like it is supposed to.”

(If you follow our BridalBuzz blog, the name Shannon Zmud may already be familiar to you. That’s synergy, folks.)
