The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, or seasonal music at the Meyerson. It’s a very Arts District day. Though don’t continue without reading Raya’s recap of lasts night’s Chanel show.

At the Winspear, the revamped Broadway musical version of what was once a long freewheeling opera starts its run. There are so many tickets available, it’s ridiculous and you should take shameless advantage. This new adaptation of Porgy and Bess, which won several Tony Awards, was stripped down to its essentials by playwright Suzan Lori-Parks, composer Diedre L. Murray, and director Diane Paulus. The action centers around the fictional Catfish Row, a tenement house inhabited by freed slaves in 1920s Charleston, South Carolina, where the down-on-her-luck Bess takes up with the crippled beggar Porgy despite varying impending disasters.

Make a reservation at The Greek for dinner, and then walk over. And if you can’t go tonight, try and get tickets for later in the run. This is one you want to see.

Then, there’s the Dallas Wind Symphony’s one-night takeover at the Meyerson. The Dallas Wind Symphony puts on a spirited holiday concert featuring Christmas classics, caroling, and a visit from Santa. You’ll even hear Leroy Anderson’s popular “Sleigh Ride.” If that doesn’t get you in the Yuletide frame of mind, we don’t know what will.

For more to do tonight, go here.
