Say the name sam moon and, most likely, images of trendy, wallet-friendly baubles and bags dance in your head. Your point of reference might change once you step inside the Renaissance Dallas at Legacy West, the development’s ambassador hotel and the latest venture for the Sam Moon Group. At the 15-story hotel, samurais and cowboys happily coexist in a thoughtful mix of art and contemporary decor that unites Asian culture with the Korean family’s second-generation Texas roots. The new hoteliers worked closely with local design firm Looney & Associates to carry out their desired “West of Zen” theme. Art on view is free of charge, but we recommend grabbing a drink in the lobby’s Whiskey Moon bar, where overhead you’ll see an installation of branding irons suspended from hand-tooled leather belt straps. Here are a few of our other favorite design elements.
