Ex-Terrell Hospital CEO Indicted in Fraud Case

|

A Cedar Hill physician who ran a now-closed Terrell hospital has been indicted in a more than $1 million healthcare fraud investigation, according to the Associated Press.

Tariq Mahmood, MD, has been charged with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and seven counts of healthcare fraud, according to prosecutors. The cases involve Medicare and Medicaid claims since 2010.

Mahmood appeared this week before a Tyler magistrate and was freed on a $25,000 bond. He has denied the allegations.

Renaissance Hospital closed in February after a federal agency halted funding. Regulators raised questions after two patients died.
