Provider Groups Push Back on EHR Meaningful Use Schedule

|

The American Medical Association, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Federation of American Hospitals are urging the federal government to suspend and evaluate its electronic health records incentive program before establishing Stage 3 meaningful-use recommendations.

The groups say the Stage 3 requirements, set to go into effect in 2016, are scheduled too soon after those of the first two stages and will require significant financial investment that could be a hardship for many providers.  Stage 2 requirement deadlines are Oct. 1 for hospitals and Jan 1., 2014, for physicians.
