Battery manufacturer Sanyo Energy is moving its headquarters from Frisco to The Colony. The company has tapped Billingsley Co. to develop a new 30,000-square-foot office building within Austin Ranch.

Designed by Good Fulton Farrell and located off Plano Parkway between State Highway 121 and Windhaven Road, the project is scheduled for completion next July.

Dean Collins and Mark Collins of Cushman & Wakefield of Texas Inc. represented Sanyo Energy in its search and lease negotiations. Marijke Lantz was the in-house representative for Billingsley Co.

With increasing rental rates due to tenant demand, Sanyo Energy took a more focused approach, said Dean Collins. “This project did not follow typical protocols,” he said. “Tenants have a unique opportunity to consider build-to-suits because interest rates are currently low and pricing is very competitive versus existing product.”

Lucy Billingsley, partner at Billingsley Co., said Austin Ranch is seeing a burst of activity, due to Nebraska Furniture Mart and its new Grandscape project in The Colony.

“We are seeing a large increase in build-to-suit activity from companies looking to relocate or increase the visibility of their brand,” she said. “We have loved the scenic view from this site for years, and can’t wait to share it with Sanyo.”
