Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is now a Level I Trauma Center, one of only 20 such facilities in the state. The certification comes after nearly a decade of planning and preparation, and is verified by the American College of Surgeons and the Texas Department of State Health Services. The hospital provides 24-hour in house coverage by trauma and general surgeons as well as specialty coverage including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, radiology, and others.

UT Southwestern is the recipient of a $100 million gift from the O’Donnell Foundation to endow and support the medical center’s school of public health. The gift is the largest in the country to a state school of public health and is the third largest of any school of public health. The school will enroll its first students in the Master of Public Health degree next fall, and the Ph. D program will launch in 2024.

Medical City Dallas is using a minimally invasive robot to diagnose lung cancer. It features a thin, maneuverable catheter that can move 180 degrees in all directions, which helps physicians explore all the airways of the lung, providing a more precise biopsy and efficient surgery. The device prevents puncturing the outside of the lung, and can access the lung via the mouth rather than opening the chest cavity.

Home health technology company Axxess has launched a standalone software company that is build for palliative care medicine. Axxess Palliative Care is the first company to develop and launch a fully independent palliative care solution, and was developed with palliative provider and Axxess client Heart of Hospice.
