Merck seeks FDA authorization on its COVID-19 treatment pill, Dallas Morning News reports. Merck requested emergency use for adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 at risk for severe disease or hospitalization. If approved, Merck’s molnupiravir antiviral pill would be the first of its kind, treating COVID-19 at home, reducing symptoms, and quickening recovery.


Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker tests positive for COVID-19, KERA reports. Mayor Parker has caught a breakthrough case, illness after full vaccination, and says she is following City guidelines on isolation.


Booster shot for children ages five to 11 not expected to be available by Halloween, WFAA reports. ​Before granting emergency use authorization, the FDA will be considering their expert panel’s recommendations, happening Oct. 26, as well as consultations with the CDC and National Institutes of Health
