Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 789 new cases and 25 deaths on Wednesday, a jump from past days. Sheltering from the winter storm could cause an increase in cases, but it is unclear if this is a theme.
FEMA’s vaccination locations opened on Wednesday at Fair Park in South Dallas and Globe Life Park in Arlington. Federal and county employees will team up at the Fair Park location. They are providing 3,000 doses per day to 17 targeted ZIP codes with underserved populations. Learn more with KERA.
Jenkins criticized the federal government for taking shots away from Dallas County’s allotment when the FEMA site opened up, saying the county should not be punished for hosting a site. Jenkins said many who had planned to be vaccinated there but aren’t in the vulnerable communities will now have to wait, the Dallas Morning News reports.
After the winter storm took down counties’ abilities to report new COVID-19 case numbers and deaths, many have begun reporting again, the Texas Tribune reports. Hospitalizations continue to decrease, with just over 7,000 Texans in the hospital with COVID-19.
