In 1962 Oleg Cassini. known as “’Secretary of Style.” was asked by First Lady Jackie Kennedy to design a coat for her. He came up with a beautiful leopard skin swing coat, an instant trend-setter. The result was 250,000 dead leopards and the near-extinction of a species.
It is still chic to wear fur in some circles, but if you really want to look stylish this winter, go faux. (Fake fur can be more fun than the real thing anyway.) Or go no fur at all.
Cassini has never used real fur again. Presently, he’s working on his “Evolulionary” fur line, coats that are made not from real fur hut from something he calls a ’”technical miracle.”
Some rules remain: a coat should always have a flowing fit. Three-quarter length still leads, though ankle-length and full-length are nearly as popular.
And coats inevitably call for boots,
From the wedge-heeled boot, rubber-soled boot, to Prada’s embellished leaf and scarab boot, Hat boots, high spiked-heel boots, ankle boots worn with the new cropped pants, or calf length boots worn with a pencil-straight skirt, every boot is in style except no boots.
