The Dallas Look Clean Sweep

If the idea of pre-millennium dressing evokes futuristic visions of hard edges and tighter-than- tight stretch, forget those stereotypical mindsets. High-tech is already here in terms of L mierofiber and other fabrics. For the future, just think uncluttered and clean without being strictly minimalist.

After spring’s color explosion, many designers have turned to the classic urban chic look of very sim-ple. monochromatic black. Expect to see the resurgence of the suit, while simple separates appear with just as strong of a statement (Other “in” shades include cream, olive, slate blue, lavender and bum! I orange, distinctly Texas hues.)

I Besides looking ahead, designers seem to want to take a nostalgic look back to some Lof this century’s fashion trends. Caveman leather is a theme every-where, not only as outerwear but for skirts, shirts, and pants. Many of fall’s clothes are great to wrap up in, with “blanker’ wraps in skirls and capes being reminiscent of earlier Native America. “Bohemian Chic” from this summer is still going strong for fall with embellished fabrics and hand beading. On the opposite end of the timeline, a very sleek and functional look is expressed in the neo-traditional long skirl, crisp while shirt, and tailored coat. As the calendar turns to 2000, the sleek shape of the future is interpreted with one eye on the past: black wool turtle neck sweater and blanket skirt, with satin boot (pictured here), all by Donna Karan.

Fresh Face

Make-up and hair reflect a clean and polished look. Coverage is fresh with the focal point still on cheek color. Look for metallic sheens like steels ami grays for eyes, an apricot undertone on the lips with a touch of gold. Hair follows make-up with a streamlined edge that expresses simplicity.
