Methodist Dallas Names New President as Previous Leader Becomes System’s CMO

|
John Phillips becomes CEO at Methodist Dallas after serving in that role at Methodist Mansfield over the last seven years.

Methodist Health System has a new leader at its flagship Dallas hospital.

John Phillips, who has been the head of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center for the last seven years, officially took his perch at Methodist Dallas Medical Center on Monday.

Phillips takes over for Dr. Martin Koonsman, who has moved up the chain to become the system’s chief medical officer.

In Mansfield, Phillips grew the hospital to 254 beds and helped it gain a Level 3 trauma designation as well as a Magnet designation, given to top performing hospitals for nursing.

“John is highly engaged and highly regarded in the communities Methodist Mansfield serves, a skill set that will serve him well at Methodist Dallas,” Methodist COO and Executive Vice President Pam Stoyanoff said in a statement.  “He will surely be missed at Methodist Mansfield, but I am so happy to have John continue his journey within Methodist.”

Phillips held CEO and COO positions within Irving-based Christus Health and Abilene-based Hendrick Health System before joining Methodist. He started out as a physical therapist before earning a Masters of Business Administration and Masters in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.
