The T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Faith Presbyterian Hospice held a dedication ceremony Tuesday celebrating its opening. The $43 million center is the first standalone in-patient and residential hospice center in Dallas.
The center aims to provide comfort and respite while elderly patients face terminal illnesses. According to a statement, the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center also serves as a transitional unit for patients with chronic diseases to be stabilized before returning home.
Comprising more than 53,000 square feet, the center holds 36 patient suites and is expected to serve 1,200 families. Five buildings make up the center’s campus: The Harold Simmons Foundation Inpatient Care Center, The Pickens Center Child and Family Bereavement Center, Spiritual Care Center, The Marnie and Kern Wildenthal Education Center, and The Donald and Charlotte Test Outdoor Reflection Center.
Tim Mallad, president of Presbyterian Communities and Services, says the organization is committed to enriching the lives of its patients. “The center does not feel clinical or like a medical facility; it has the warmth of home and was designed to provide tranquility and support for patients and their families,” Mallad said in a statement. “We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of this exceptional hospice center which fills a longtime gap in the healthcare continuum in Dallas.”
