President Obama appointed a new U.S. Ebola “czar” on Friday after facing criticism from lawmakers amid growing concerns about containing the virus in the U.S.

Ron Klain, the new “czar,” is the president of Case Holdings and general counsel of Revolution LLC, and previously served as chief of staff to vice presidents Al Gore and Joe Biden.

“It may make sense for us to have one person, in part just so that after this initial surge of activity we can have a more regular process just to make sure that we’re crossing all the T’s and dotting all the I’s going forward,” Obama told reporters during remarks made Thursday evening after a House hearing in which bipartisan leaders told federal health officials that the response to Ebola has been inadequate. He also mentioned the future possibility of instating a travel ban, stating that he has no “philosophical objection” to that possibility.
