$213 Billion Wasted on Improper Drug Use, Study Says

|

Patients and physicians could save the U.S. healthcare system at least $213 billion annually with wiser use of medications, according to a study by the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics.

Those savings would stem from avoiding underuse, overuse and prescriptions that lead to more expensive care, the study said. The savings would represent about 8 percent of U.S. healthcare costs and could insure 24 million Americans, the IMS said.
