Beating Up on Best & Worst
YOUR CHARACTERIZATION OF HAUTE DOGS & Fat Cats was unfair. You fail to mention the many valuable and useful pet-related products they offer that are of a quality generally not available anywhere else in Dallas.

I FEEL OBLIGATED TO SHOOT BACK AT WHAT was obviously a highly personal and frankly mean potshot at Discount Tires. My personal experiences with Discount Tires have been so positive that 1 recently wrote the owner in Arizona saying that, as the former director of sales for Neiman Marcus. I was blown away by their wonderful customer service attitudes and policies. They are the best, not worst.

I WAS SURPRISED AT YOUR LABEL OF “WORST” for Maria Morris’ Dallas Center of Clinical Aesthetics. Your critics are often on the mark with their reviews-but not in this case.
Maybe your critics could actually talk with a few clients as a means of making an informed analysis next time. Just an idea.

QUAKE III ARENA IS NOT THE FIRST GAME TO feature Internet game-play. The other two versions of Quake also support Internet interaction. In fact, the first game to allow users to head to the Net was id’s Doom.

FOR 18 YEARS AND 1,400 GAMES. I HAVE BEEN the scoreboard, music, and public-address guy for the Texas Rangers. At no time during the 1999 season did Jeff Cogan or Jim Lites come to me and say play more heavy metal music or techno music.
Yes, we played a couple of different songs, but as long as I have been pushing the buttons, there has been some type of heavy metal music played at Rangers’ games.
Where were the fans? In my opinion, we needed to beat the Yankees. We beat the Yankees, and the floodgates open.
Jeff Cogen did not tell me to play the techno version of the “Cotton Eyed Joe.” I played that on my own.

TO CHARACTERIZE THE GEORGEBUSH2000. com site as “worst” is a cheap shot. The items listed there are hardly “innuendo, twisted fact, and flawed analysis.” The first several that I read were from a variety of reputable sources: U. S. News, Associated Press, National Education Agency. Public Policy Institute, and Texas A&M University, to name just a few. Your Republican-Bush bias is showing!

IT’S ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO GET THE NOD OF approval from the Absolute Authority on Public Opinion: D Magazine’s Best & Worst. Many thanks for your kudos, selecting our Chai Latte as the Hottest Hot Drink. (We think it’s pretty cool, too!)

I’D LIKE TO CORRECT SOME INACCURACIES regarding Texas Instruments. The table lists our Texas population as 1,116. Actually, that number is 12,500, with about 10,000 in Dallas alone. Also, the company does offer unmarried partners’ benefits, but that change occurred after your reporter called.
