Gifts From Home

Great new home shops.

Bulldogs Napoleon and Lil Bean rule over their domain at Napa Home.

Gifts From Home
With the demise of Translations and the evolution of Forty Five Ten into a fashion-first outpost, Dallas shoppers have bemoaned the dearth of stylish gift shops. (Honestly, how many photo frames and candles can we give?) Now that owners Julia Elam and Randolph Phillips have moved their popular Napa Home from Austin to Dallas, we no longer worry. Taking a cue from its name, Napa Home exudes a fresh northern California sensibility with refined home accessories, olive oil-infused bath products, custom-made furniture, and lovely china. Creams, charcoals, and blacks, with the occasional splash of acid green, dominate Napa Home’s stylish wares. Nothing faux or fussy here. Epicureans, note the shops corner of flavored oils and sea salts. And don’t forget to scratch the tummy of Napa Home’s official greeters, Elam’s bulldogs Napoleon and Lil Bean. They have a following; people come in to see the dogs,  Elam says. Something tells us, however, that Napa Home’s following is more about the presents with panache than the pooches. 4012 Oak Lawn Ave. 214.520.4880. www.napahometx.com.

Knight Moves
Lovers of sleek Lucite and exotic furnishings will have more room for rejoicing come this fall. Allan Knight and Associates will move its showroom from the Decorative Center to the new International Design Center at the intersection of Turtle Creek and Irving Boulevards. In the process, Knight’s new space will increase by 10,000 square feet, allowing him to carry several new lines including Aydemir, Cot France, David Dalton Arroyo Collection, Evanson Studio, Jacobsen & Balla, Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, Michael Berman, Petronio, and Taillardat Collection. “We are forming an alliance with other Dallas showrooms to create a new design center, says Knight. It’s wonderful to create a space tailored for our showroom. Knight’s new spacious digs will open September or October. 1400 Hi Line Dr. 214.741.2227. allanknightasso.com. –HEATHER VANCE

Cool Stuff We Love
A vintage dress here, an old scarf there. David Goltl has found new life for outdated fabrics: pillows with a hip retro vibe. Goltl’s line, appropriately named Bornagain, revives old or used fabrics by sewing them onto feather/down throw pillows. Goltl said he enjoys knowing that every pillow is unique and timeless. So do we. 214-327-5350. www.bornagainfurniture.com.  –MICHELLE PARSONS
