Check Out the Third Annual Asian Night Market at The Bomb Factory

Look for new Indonesian and Filipino food.

Last year at the Asian Night Market, which filled The Bomb Factory, Khao Noodle and Ka Tip were neighborly rivals, bringing out the competitive decoration edge, and tricking out their stands: the duck noodle bowl from Khao Noodle was handed out under brightly colored pennants, while Ka Tip dished up stage presence and cured Thai sausage. They were both newcomers on a night meant to shine a light on the city’s Asian chefs and restaurateurs, who are at the forefront of the very segment of the Dallas food scene that is blooming.

(Quick aside: yesterday, I posted about Donny Sirisavath’s Khao Noodle earning recognition as one of Eater’s 16 Best New Restaurants in the country. Read about it here. If you want to think of the Night Market as an incubator-showcase, go right ahead.)

Now the newcomers present represent another segment, adding Southeast Asia—Indonesia, the Philippines—and India.

The menu: Javanese coconut braised chicken with rice from the Indonesian Community Center; a Nam Khao corn dog from Khao Noodle Shop (coconut curry rice, cured pork, and pork skin, deep fried and served with lettuce and jeow som aioli); palabok from Bilao (involving shrimp, hard-cooked egg, and chicharron); knom jeen sound nam from Ka Tip (a cool bowl of rice vermicelli noodles with spicy coconut sauce, with a flurry-topping of dried shrimp, pineapple, and coconut), zong zhi from Jeng Chi (meat and sticky rice steamed in banana leaf), as well as dishes from Sushi de Handroll, Niwa Japanese BBQ, the new Ohashi, and pakoras from Kalachandji’s. Also coconut jelly served in a coconut and pina colada smoothies from Acai & Alchemy and cucumber honeydew milk tea from Bobaddiction.

When: Sunday, July 21, 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Where: The Bomb Factory
What: Admission $12. Food coupons extra. Menu items are under $10 (most running $6).

Advance admission tickets can be purchased here. More information about the event can be found here.
