Something’s Up With Dallas PD’s Vice Unit. Citing “serious issues” but declining to describe them, new police Chief U. Renee Hall reassigned the 20 officers in the department’s vice unit, tasked with investigating crimes like prostitution and gambling. Hall, who came to Dallas in September, has asked outside investigators to look into these mysterious issues while she continues a review of the department.

15-Year-Old Boy Charged With Capital Murder. The juvenile is accused of killing 27-year-old Gabrielle Simmons, a mother of six who worked at a Dollar General in East Oak Cliff. She was held at gunpoint and shot Monday night “after she emptied the cash register” at the store, which has been robbed three times in the last year.

Jordan Edwards’ Killer Has History of Troubling Behavior. Fired Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver  “was a member of a group called ‘Caucasians in Effect’ in middle school,” according to newly filed court documents. A 2011 psychological exam found that Oliver had a strong “sense of entitlement.” He was “uncooperative and used profanity” in a 2013 trial. In April, he “flipped off” a car full of teenagers leaving a party in Balch Springs, either shortly before or after he fired the shots that killed Edwards. A trial date for Oliver, who is charged with murder, is set for Jan. 22.
