Griff Davenport, CEO of the DLR Group, announced that Dallas-based interiors firm Staffelbach is joining DLR Group and will operate as DLR Group|Staffelbach. Terms of the acquisition of Staffelbach by Minneapolis-based DLR Group were not disclosed.

Staffelbach was founded in 1966 by Swiss-born interior designer Andre Staffelbach. In 1985, he was joined in Dallas by Jo Heinz, Staffelbach’s current president and CEO. Since then, the firm has expanded to a 70-member team of specialized interior designers, architects, and planners. Since 1986 the firm has consistently been listed as one of the Top 100 firms in the country by Interior Design magazine and has worked closely with Fortune 100 clients.

DLR Group, an integrated design firm with 1,100 employees, has its own list of accolades. Its education group, for example, is currently working on various design projects in Texas including the Austin Independent School District, El Paso Independent School District, Houston Independent School District, Round Rock Independent School District, The University of Texas, and the University of Houston.

In addition, the DLR Group’s hospitality arm is completing a new Canopy Hotel by Hilton in Dallas, which is scheduled to open in November; the renovation of the Marriott Autograph ICON in downtown Houston,;and the design of a new full-service hotel in Lubbock.

“Staffelbach’s interiors expertise will be of immediate benefit to our national Workplace clients like Google, Boeing, IPG, and Nestle,” Davenport said in a prepared statement. “For Staffelbach, this greatly expands the range of design services available to its clients, including full-service architecture and engineering delivered as part of an integrated design process.”

Staffelbach Heinz will continue to lead the DLR Group|Staffelbach office in Dallas, where it will help DLR Group better serve existing Texas clientele and reach new clients. All Staffelbach professionals will also have the opportunity to purchase stock and invest in the future of the DLR Group, which is a 100-percent employee-owned firm.

The firms will merge operations immediately, with full integration and the name change to DLR Group|Staffelbach effective on October 2.
