|

It’s Opening Day! Your Texas Rangers square off against the American League champion Cleveland (murmur) Indians at Globe Life Ballpark. Yu Darvish will start. Here is everything you need to know. Here is something you don’t need to know: my elbow hurts.

Mayor Rawlings Won’t Support Bill To Save Police and Fire Pension System. He called a provision binding the city to minimum payments into the fund a “poison pill,” saying the escalating amount of cash the city would be on the hook for amounts to “nothing more than a taxpayer bailout.” House Pensions committee chairman Dan Flynn (R-Van) said he is “deeply disappointed.” While I am aware of the seriousness of the situation, I would like to add that the condition of my elbow is also deeply disappointing.

Jonathan Tramaine Turner Arrested Again. If the name sounds familiar, you may remember that Turner, a former Madison High basketball player, pled guilty to manslaughter in the beating death of Troy Causey in 2014, for which he was given seven years’ probation. South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team Wins First NCAA Title. At the American Airlines Center on Sunday, the Gamecocks took down Mississippi State, the team that ended Connecticut’s 111-game winning streak Friday night on a buzzer beater in overtime, with Bulldogs alum Dak Prescott in attendance and going nuts.

Police Dog Hurt in the Line of Duty. His name is Yoll and he fell down an elevator shaft while searching an abandoned hospital. Somehow he ended up with only two small scrapes on his paws. WHO’S A GOOD DOG?

Nasher Sculpture Center Awards Second Nasher Prize. The winner: French artist Pierre Huyghe. He is known for creating [squints at index card] “artistic ‘situations’ that include living organisms of various forms, objects, liquids, gases, films, and more arcane media in dizzying combinations.” Quick update on my elbow sitch: concerningly sore.
