Nefarious Transgender Texans Are Not Our Concern. In yesterday’s guest column in Harvey Kronberg’s Quorum Report, Texas House Rep. Jason Villalba called the “Bathroom Bill” the “most unserious attempt at galvanizing Republican primary voters in a generation.” The Dallas attorney, a Republican and avowed personal friend of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, noted that Senate Bill 6 “fails to solve a problem that doesn’t even exist” because it’s already illegal to assault people. Anywhere. Even in bathrooms. And peeping isn’t allowed, either. “The chance that our children—in schools or otherwise—are somehow at risk of nefarious transgender Texans assaulting them in showers or restrooms is simply non-existent.” As if to prove his point, North Carolina repealed their bathroom bill yesterday. It’s time to turn our attention back to wild hogs.
Ken Paxton Gets Kicked Out of Collin County. Judge George Gallagher ruled yesterday that the securities fraud case against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton should be moved out of Collin County, where he lives, delaying the planned May 1 trial date. Prosecutors had argued Paxton and his supporters tainted the jury pool. The tipping point appears to be a new exhibit—an invitation to a 2013 fundraiser for Paxton’s 2014 campaign for attorney general. The hosts included a number of “prominent” Collin County officials.
