Fair Park One Step Closer to Privatization. The Dallas Parks and Recreation Board voted 9-to-5 in favor of privatizing the space—after an eight-hour debate. With this plan, a $600 million investment would be placed into the 277-acre park over 30 years. The intention is to make Fair Park a year-round destination. However, this conversation has not come without some dispute. The Dallas City Council is expected to vote on the proposal next.

Study Shows 9,000 Dogs Roam Southern Dallas. An 11-week study by a Boston Consulting Group also found that the number of dog bites increases annually–and has done so since 2013. This is the first study that puts numbers to an issue that has affected the area for years. The research group was hired to look into the loose dog epidemic after a 52-year-old woman died in May after suffering more than 100 bites from a pack of dogs in South Dallas. Reinforcing the severity of the situation, an 11-year-old boy was attacked Wednesday evening by five dogs in his neighborhood near Fair Park. He suffered minor injuries.

Credit Card Information-Stealing Devices Found in Gas Pumps. Three times throughout the past couple of weeks, police have found credit card-skimming devices inside gas pumps. Investigators found the devices, which allow credit card numbers to be downloaded remotely, buried inside the outside credit card kiosks at two different ExxonMobil locations and a 7-Eleven station throughout North Dallas and Far North Dallas.

Texas Ties to Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The opening ceremony is tonight, and there are more than 100 Olympians with connections to Texas ready to compete in Rio. Among that number are several North Texans. Plano’s World Olympic Gymnastics Academy will be cheering on gymnast Madison Kocian, who trains there. Gold medalists Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin also trained at the gym.
