Events to Honor Victims of Dallas Shooting

The city continues to heal from the violence of July 7.

On Monday, July 11, a candlelight vigil at City Hall will honor the fallen officers.

On Tuesday, July 12, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former President George W. Bush, and former First Lady Laura Bush will speak at an interfaith memorial service at the Meyerson Symphony Center. (The memorial will be closed to the public.)

On Thursday, July 14, singers from the community choir Credo, the Dallas Symphony Chorus, Turtle Creek Chorale, DISD, and several local congregations will gather at the Meyerson for “Dallas Sings, Dallas Strong,” a performance of “uplifting and healing music” featuring some speeches from community leaders.

On Saturday, July 16, people will gather at Klyde Warren Park for “Love in the Streets,” which will expand through downtown and “spread love and music on every sidewalk and street corner.” The event is recruiting musicians and singers to help “reunite the Dallas community.”

On Sunday, July 17, a “Drum Jam for Dallas” will take place at Main Street Garden downtown to show support for “law enforcement, our African-American brothers and sisters, and everyone else affected by the tragedies that have taken place across the nation.”

On Sunday, July 17, a charity bike ride for the Dallas Police Department will start on the Trinity River levees, near the Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge, and wrap up in Trinity Groves.

On July 28, a Run For The Blue” 5K and mile run in Trinity Groves will raise money for the families of the officers killed in the July 7 shooting in Dallas. Go here to register or go here to donate directly.
