The Scoop: Joy Macarons Opens on Lower Greenville and More Dallas Food News

There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

Joy Macarons now open on Lower Greenville: The bakery specializing in gourmet macarons has opened a second location. “Our eyes were set on being among the amazing local restaurants and other businesses on Lower Greenville,” says owner Liz Lanier in a statement. “We love the fun vibe and believe it is a great fit for our second store.” The new storefront is serving up macarons and house-made ice cream sandwiches.

Garza Foods Now Open in Dallas’ Medical District:
Neighborhood specialty market, Garza Foods is now open at 1407 Medical District Dr. According to the release:

“Garza Foods is a neighborhood specialty micro market focused on supporting local suppliers and café serving Mexican food and Texas favorites. Their menu includes breakfast burritos, egg scrambles, brisket sandwiches, chili, tortilla soup, tacos and salsas. Their house specialty is handcrafted tamales. They use real corn, cook it, stone grind it and make it into masa. They make their own fillings and each one is rolled by hand. Garza Foods uses turkey instead of pork in their Chorizo and Country Sausage, both of which are made in house, and use only fresh ingredients in all their foods. Those food items that are not made in house are sourced locally…Owners Joe Garza and Margaret Hinojosa de Garza are 7th generation Texans who founded Garza Foods in Seattle, Washington in 2009.”

Garza Foods serves sodas from Oak Cliff Beverage Works, a selection of local beers, and Texas wine. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Additional information can be found on their website.

SODA Bar at NYLO Dallas South Side offers champagne popsicles: This Friday, the SODA Bar is offering boozy popsicles and champagne. Flavors include sangria grape, margarita lime, strawberry daiquiri, and mimosa orange. According to the release: “Offered in four fun and delicious flavors including Sangria Grape, Margarita Lime, Strawberry Daiquiri, and Mimosa Orange, $10 will get you a Champagne Pop the best view of the Dallas skyline. These refreshing summer treats be served from 12pm until they sell out. And when they’re gone, they’re gone – so make sure to get SODA Bar included in your Friday plans now. For those with an aversion to bubbles, NYLO will also be offering Wine Pops for just $5.”
